Immaculate Conception School Teacher : Gabriela Armendariz email: [email protected] ICOLPH Physical Education The goal of physical education is to help prepare students to live healthier lives in every aspect. In P.E. we will address the whole student mind, body, and soul. Students will have the opportunity to learn about health, fitness, nutrition, movement strategies, teamwork, sports, sportsmanship, stress-management, self-confidence and problem solving. This will be accomplished through exposure to a wide variety of exercises, sports, team building activities, and games in order for students to learn to love fitness while building cognitive and social skills. P.E. at ICOLPH will be centered on fun and safe environments in order to help students succeed in every aspect. Materials K-3rd grade: Closed toe athletic shoes, water bottle (optional) 4th-8th grade: ICOLPH PE uniforms and Closed toe athletic shoes, water bottle (optional) Physical Education Standards Standard 1 - The physically literate individual demonstrates competency in a variety of motor skills and movement patterns. Standard 2 - The physically literate individual applies knowledge of concepts, principles, strategies and tactics related to movement and performance. Standard 3 - The physically literate individual demonstrates the knowledge and skills to achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical activity and fitness. Standard 4 - The physically literate individual exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others. Standard 5 - The physically literate individual recognizes the value of physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression and/or social interaction Grading Policy Students will earn a grade in P.E. each trimester according to the following:Behavior, Sportsmanship, Participation- 33% Participation will be assessed on effort and participation put forth by the student in each class activity. Positive attitudes, adherence to class and school rules, and good sportsmanship with peers will be expected from all students. Attire & Safety-33% Students will need to wear proper P.E. approved attire and will be expected to act safely with activities, equipment, facilities, and peers. Competency (Skill & Cognitive)-33% Students will routinely be assessed in the skill set being taught and assessed based on individual improvement and effort of each skill or task. Intramurals We will be offering intramurals to the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. Intramurals will take place during their lunch recess time Monday through Friday. Students will sign-up if they would like to participate in intramurals. If a student doesn’t want to participate in intramurals they may still come over to the gym and watch the tournaments. |
